Recipe: Power your Goal with Pendo

Overview

As a product manager, you probably have usage Goals after you shipped a feature. Pendo’s Goal feature allows you to measure how many users visit a page or use a feature. In this Recipe, will walk you through how to add a Goal to measure a feature usage and use Pendo features to help you achieve it.

note: Depending on your situation, you may be able to use additional Pendo features for other creative solutions. This Recipe is intended to help you get started.

Ingredients (What You Need)

  • Pendo admin account permission or the following:
    • User permission
    • User permission to create Guides
    • User permission to publish Guides
  • Target segment(s) - Everyone
  • Target feature or location within your product
  • Desired Guide content for target feature (as needed)

How To Make It

Step 1. Before you can add a Goal, Make sure your desired page and/or feature is tagged in Pendo.

Step 2. Navigate to your tagged feature to add a Goal (ongoing or timebound).

tip: Your goal will saved to the detail page so you have all metrics in one location. <a href="https://help.pendo.io/resources/support-library/analytics/goals#dashboard-widget" target="_blank">Add a widget to your dashboard</a> to easily check the progress of your Goal.

Step 3. After you add your Goal, setup a Pendo Guide to announce the new feature release to your end users. This will allow you to capture your user’s attention and help users try it out.

Step 4. Create a walkthrough to teach your users how to use the feature.

Step 5. If you want to see how your Guide is helping users start to use your feature by overlaying the feature usage metric over your Guide metrics.

Step 6. After you deploy your feature and Pendo Guides, use a funnel to see where users are dropping off.

Step 7. Then, create a Path to see where those users go and keep an eye on the most common route users take after introducing your new feature.

Step 8. If you notice something that can add context to your feature, add tooltips to improve the user experience.

Step 9. After the feature has been released for some time, ask users for their feedback in-app through a Pendo poll.
